Trend Lines 1963 to 2015

I was not even born in 1963. 

However I do enjoy some good hip-hop and techno music.

Listening to the radio yesterday however, both me and my 16 year old son were amazed at just exactly how bad the top 40 music has become.  Even comparing the "old school" music from the late 90's to today, the late 90's music was so much more original and the lyrics were better.

The late 90's were 'peak music' in my opinion.  It is not just cause I am getting old and a generational thing.  I think it has much more to do with the song prediction algorithms than anything else.

I am really good at spotting trends. I am terrible at timing.

However this will certainly illustrate my point.

Chlorin e6 (Ce6) has been used for many years as a therapy agent in cancer treatment1,2.

However, in recent years other uses for ce6 have been found, the most notable in this case being its application into the conjuctival sac of the eye as a means of treating night blindness and improving the dim light vision of those with visual disturbances3. This preliminary study attempts to test the ability of a mixture containing Ce6 to improve the dim light vision of healthy adults.

In 2012 a patent was filed based in some part on the work of Washington et al4. The patent claims that a mixture can be made which, when applied to the eye, will absorb to the retina and act to increase vision in low light. The mixture put forth in the patent is a simple combination of Ce6 and insulin in saline. It is mentioned in the same, that dimethlysulfoxide (DMSO) can be used in place of the insulin. We propose a combination of the two could lead to the most noted effects. For testing purposes, the mixture from the patent (Ce6, Saline, Insulin) was used with the addition of DMSO for increased permeability.

Material Background

Ce6 is a tetrapyrolle and a chlorophyll analog. As mentioned, it has historically been used as a photosensitizer in laser assisted cancer remediation. The light amplification properties of the Ce6 are used to use the energy from a low power light source to destroy cancerous cells with literal laser precision. The reaction creates oxygen species which induce apoptosis in tumor cells. This lead to the concerns about the mixture, as it would be possible that bright or even ambient daylight’s amplified effect in the eye may harm the cells, potentially causing permanent damage.

The function of the insulin is not expressly mentioned in the patent or the journals papers. It has been shown that insulin downregulates the ABCG2 mediated transport pathway5. With ABCG2 downregulated, greater absorption is shown for photosensitizers like Ce66. In the case of this solution, the insulin is used to allow absorption of the Ce6 into the chamber of the eye.

DMSO is used in cell preservation and in medication application. It’s primary ability, in this scope, is to cause increased permeability of the cellular membrane, allowing for free passage for any chemicals that come into contact with the dosed area. While anecdotal reports of healing abilities or “tasting” lemon juice through ones skin abound on the internet, the high risk of cellular toxicity from outside contaminants being absorbed through the skin make this chemical something that should only be handled with caution.


The Ce6 (Frontier Scientific, CAS: 19660-77-6 ), was found to be a fine black powder which clung to all surfaces. To make manipulating the chemical easier, a large batch of the total solution was made and then aliqouted into separate containers for storage.

200mg of Ce6 was mixed with 400 units (4ml) of insulin (70/30 Lantus). To this was added 5.38ml of sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride). The mixture was sonicated briefly (30 seconds) to allow for proper dispersal of the powder into saturated solution and then 625μl of DMSO (Amresco) was added. The solution was sealed with parafilm and sonicated for 150 seconds. The resulting liquid was thin and black in color. Solution was kept in glass aliqouts wrapped in foil at 20°C.

For the application, the subject rested supine and his eyes were flushed with saline to remove any micro-debris or contaminants that might be present. Eyes were pinned open with a small speculum to remove the potential for blinking, which may force excess liquid out before it had a chance to absorb. Ce6 solution was added to the conjunctival sac via micropippette at 3 doses of 50μl into each eye. After each application, pressure was applied to the canthus to stop liquid from moving from the eye to the nasal region. Each dose was allowed to absorb between reloading the pippette, with the black color disappearing after only a few seconds.

After application was complete, the speculum was removed and black sclera lenses were placed into each eye to reduce the potential light entering the eye. Black sunglasses were then worn during all but testing, to ensure increased low light conditions and reduce the potential for bright light exposure.


The Ce6 solution has been shown to work in as little as one hour, with the effects lasting for “many hours” afterwards3. After 2 hours of adjustment, the subject and 4 controls were taken to a darkened area and subjected to testing. Three forms of subjective testing were performed. These consisted of symbol recognition by distance, symbol recognition on varying background colors at a static distance, and the ability to identify moving subjects in a varied background at varied distances. Symbol recognition consisted of placing a collection of objects with markings on them (numbers, letters, shapes). Subjects were then asked to identify the markings, each viewing the objects from the same location at a distance of 10 meters. The markings were not made prior to the moment of testing.

For subject recognition, individuals went moved in a small grove of trees. They were allowed to chose their own location independently. Distances ranged from 25 to 50 meters from observation point and trees and brush were used for “blending”. Locations were chosen without being observed by the test subjects. The Ce6 subject and controls were handed a laser pointer and asked to identify the location of the people in the grove. After testing the Ce6 subject replaced the sunglasses which were not removed until sleep. Eyesight in the morning seemed to have returned to normal and as of 20 days, there have been no noticeable effects.

The Ce6 subject consistently recognized symbols that did not seem to be visible to the controls. The Ce6 subject identified the distant figures 100% of the time, with the controls showing a 33% identification rate.


It is noted that more testing will need to be done on this particular project. Current testing done was subjective in nature. A Ganzfeld stimulator and electroretinigraph will be used to measure the actual amount of electrical stimulation increase from the eye, giving a hard quantifiable number to the degree of amplification. It is also possible to test which ranges of vision are being amplified as well. However, given the current results and the previous body of work on the technique, it seems fair to say that this technique is successful in it claims for low light amplification in the human eye. These findings are subjective experiences. Subject experienced no adverse effects following administration. Preliminary testing seems to indicate this increase in dim light vision to be occurring. Further testing is need to confirm and measure the degree of improvement in health subjects.

Being able to access the information put forth in journals and patents is extremely important for future scientists to be able to work with and build from the knowledge that we have currently. Moreover, it is extremely important for clear methods to be available for any researcher who desires to review a scientific paper. The last year (2014) has shown more scientific journal articles rescinded than any year previously. Citizen scientists and “DIY biologists” are under no pressure to reach or hold a position of tenure and often do not have the need to produce for monetary reasons. It is possible that this will allow for less bias in publishing and a more open release of work due to the lack of external motivators. By making information accessible, one can pre-empt “scooping” and instead focus on collaboration. During this research, we feel we were fortunate to be operating from just such a position. The disadvantage however was a decreased availability of access to many of the tools that would allow us to verify our findings quickly and easily. Ce6 administered as described in this paper in the dosages described have so far been without any adverse effects and show great potential to enhance the vision of healthy adults in dim light situations. Further studies should be performed in order to measure the effects of this ce6 solution objectively.

Information about this agent
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is currently being used as an alternative therapeutic modality for a variety of malignant tumors. This study was performed to show an efficient preparation of second generation of photosensitizer chlorin e6 (Ce6) with high yield and purity, and to test antitumor activity of Ce6-induced PDT (Ce6-PDT) both in vitro and in vivo using a rat tumor model. Three-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were inoculated s.c. on the right flank with 5x106 RK3E-ras cells. The animals were admin-istered i.v. with Ce6 (10 mg/kg) and 24 h later, PDT was performed using a laser diode at a light dose of 100 J/cm2. Ce6-PDT generated reactive oxygen species and led to significant growth inhibition in RK3E-ras cell. In addition, Ce6-PDT induced apoptosis through the activation of caspase-3 and its downstream target, PARP cleavage. The protein level of anti-apoptotic bcl-2 was also reduced by Ce6-PDT in RK3E-ras cells. In in vivo experiments, application of Ce6-PDT led to a significant reduction of tumor size. PCNA immunostaining and TUNEL assay revealed that Ce6-PDT inhibited tumor cell proliferation and increased apoptosis. Methods to make Chlorin E6
Chlorin E6 is a natural product, and usually can be made from Live chlorella (Chlorella ellipsoidea, see the following pictures)
The following procedure was reported in Oncology Reports, 2009, 22(5). 1085-1091 by Korean scientists Yeon-Hee Moon et al.   Live chlorella (Chlorella ellipsoidea) 100 g (dried weight) was sequentially washed with 500 ml of water and 300 ml of 50% ethanol in water to remove polar materials and the residue was extracted twice with 500 ml of 100% ethanol to obtain chlorophyll a rich fraction (extraction yield 4.3%). Stirring the combined ethanol solution of chlorophyll a in 1 N HCl (pH 2.5) for 3 h at room temperature afforded pheophytin in the form of precipitates. The precipitate was dissolved in dichloromethane washed with distilled water, dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, and rotary-evaporated to dryness. The residue was purified by a chromatography using neutral alumina (Aldrich, Brockmann, ~150 mesh) with a gradient elution from 30% dichloromethane in n-hexane to 100% dichloromethane. The main green band was collected and evaporated to dryness. The crystalline powder was dissolved in acetone, adjusted pH 12.0 with 1 N NaOH, and stirred for 12 h. The precipitated Ce6 was filtered, washed with acetone and dissolved in 100 ml of water, and filtered to remove insoluble impurity. After lyophilization of the filtered water solution, a fine black powder of Ce6 was obtained. The purity of Ce6 is 93-98% (yield of Ce6: 1% from dried weight of chlorella).

Truck Drivng: Doing The Math

I will admit it.  I used to be a scumbag truck driver.

Fresh out of the military, no jobs locally and a ex wife that refused to move to where there were jobs.

When I started driving in 1998, I had to pay several thousand dollars for school, and then months of internship at around $250 a week, all for a job that started at around $500 a week.

At that time the top pay in the industry was around 0.36 a mile. 

Flash forward to today

The same position is 0.41 per mile.

However even at official inflation rates that 0.36 per mile should be 0.52 per mile. 

This is an effective 21.3% pay cut.

Then you have this

The ad says:

Class A drivers spend more time at home and good pay.
2 years experience.

It is for a job hauling containers from Long Beach port to Phoenix.

Now here is the thing.  

English is mandatory for US commercial drivers.  The same as Aircraft pilots.

You know why the ads in Spanish.

Is there any wonder why people are pissed off and go Galt?

No way in hell I would ever go back to that.

Working for someone else is a dead end in these types of jobs.

Vietnam Veteran Steve Klein Has Been And Continues To Be Actively Fulfilling His Oath To Defend The Nation From Its Enemies

The Story Begins In Vietnam 

STEVEN A KLEIN USMC VIETNAM 1969In 1969 Steve Klein was a young, enlisted infantryman, serving as a Team Leader and translator imbedded with the Marines’ Combined Action Program (CAP) in the Vietnam jungle. As a Team Leader Corporal-in-Charge, Klein led ambush patrols in the bush for 240 nights in a row! His duties and level of responsibility were commensurate with that of a captain on an Army Special Forces (SF) A-Team doing the same mission.

In carrying out his duties, Klein gathered human intelligence in order to plan the ambush he would conduct that evening as he also coordinated three other ambushes to be executed concurrently. During the day he encrypted the ops message he sent to his company commander to de-conflict with other Marine activities in the local area of operations (AO). 

The distinguishing characteristic of Marine CAPs that differentiated them from Army SF A-Teams was, while the SF lived and operated from fortified U.S. firebases, the Marine CAP teams lived “outside the wire” in the Vietnamese village they were assigned to and were regarded by the villagers as a part of their community. 

This CAP people-to-people relationship greatly facilitated the team’s intelligence collection because information on Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese Army (NVA) forces in the AO was more readily shared by the South Vietnamese with resident U.S. forces than was the case when U.S. patrols merely passed through an area. Because of this forward-deployed stationing and intelligence collecting, Corporal Klein’s CAP Team, as well as other similarly forward-deployed Marine CAP teams, enjoyed a great deal of success in intercepting and killing NVA units infiltrating from the A Shau Valley.

Marine MustangFollowing Vietnam, Klein became a “mustang,” that is, an enlisted man promoted to commissioned officer. 

In the 1970’s Lieutenant Klein functioned as a Battalion Communications-Electronic Warfare Officer training Marines at 29 Palms, CA, in tactics that were later used in Operation Desert Storm. During this period Klein established his bona fides as an expert operational planner with the hierarchy of the Marine Corps.

The Story Continues In Iraq

After the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom, now-former Lieutenant Klein was well-recognized as a war planning expert within “the Marine fraternity” based on his proven success collecting intelligence in the midst of enemy forces and turning that intelligence into “kills.” Consequently, Klein was contracted by the Marine Corps to assist in planning for the Marine assault to capture Fallujah, Iraq, from Islamic jihadists in 2004. However, at this point, the story begins to sour. Based on Klein’s extensive Marine combat experience, he began to teach Corps planners about Mohammad’s fanatical “way of war” because he knew how important it is for U.S. forces going into combat to understand the thinking and planning guidelines of the enemy.

Political Correctness Intervenes

But when the Islamic basis and thrust of Klein’s teaching became known to the Pentagon, he was told to cease and desist from his approach and to delete the Mohammadan- and Islamic-war aspects of his war planning advice. In Klein’s estimation, ceasing to impart this insightful knowledge to Marines preparing for vicious combat with such a rabid opponent would be a criminal omission of his part. Consequently, he refused to omit such potentially life-saving knowledge of the enemy in preparing brother Marines for battle. (And as it turned out, the Battle of Fallujah was the heaviest urban combat Marines were involved in since the Battle of Hue City during the 1968 Tet Offensive.) Eventually, a “compromise” of sorts was worked out and Klein completed his service contract activities.

Steve Klein’s Counter-Jihad Story Is A “Family Affair”

Matt Klein, Klein’s son, served as an Army sergeant in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and then back to Afghanistan. Being as versatile as his father, young Klein is a combat veteran in the capacities of combat medic, sniper, and ambush team leader. As a result of Matt’s courage and skill in an engagement with the jihadists in Iraq, he was decorated by the Army with the Bronze Star and Combat V for saving the lives of an officer whose arm was blown off and five other wounded soldiers by applying his medical expertise and by stopping the enemy with a courageous counterattack.

But again, like his father, Matt Klein ran into political correctness imposed from higher authority, hindering his efforts to fight against the Islamic jihadists. Young Klein encountered his political correctness problem in Iraq for failing to comply with rules of engagement (ROE) when he was leading combat patrols. The ROE called for patrols to be accompanied by a local Iraqi; however, Steve had advised his son Matt not to include a local Iraqi in his patrol because of unreliability of Iraqis as demonstrated in “green on blue” incidents. In spite of the successes of his patrols, Matt’s brigade commander called him in to insist that he follow ROE by adding local Iraqis on his patrols. He demurred and requested to be relieved of patrol leader duty and to be returned to his status as a combat medic. The brigade commander agreed to this change.

This enforcement of the ROE requirement to include an untrusted Iraqi on patrol is a classic case of pursuing the fiction that Muslims share our opposition to Islamic jihad. However, they do not because jihad, that is, imperialistic war of conquest against non-Muslims, is the core commandment of the Islamic religion! For example:

Quran (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."  "People of the Book" refers to Christians and Jews.  According to this verse, they are to be violently subjugated, with the sole justification being their religious status.  Verse 9:33 tells Muslims that Allah has charted them to make Islam "superior over all religions." This chapter was one of the final "revelations" from Allah and it set in motion the tenacious military expansion, in which Muhammad's companions managed to conquer two-thirds of the Christian world in the next 100 years.  Islam is intended to dominate all other people and faiths.

It is insane to continue to put the lives of our armed services personnel at risk to perpetuate the myth undergirding our irrational national security policy that Islam is compatible with Western Civilization. As the above Islamic scriptural quotation and explanation leaves no doubt, the U.S. Government’s compatibility myth, the foundation of our preposterous national security policy, is demonstrated to be counterfactual by Islamic doctrine itself.

Steve Klein’s Counter-Jihad Story Continues In The U.S.

Immediately after the 9/11 World Trade Center jihadist attack, Klein jumped into action. Using his Marine CAP intelligence collection training, he visited California mosques with translators to question the Muslims there. All of these mosque interviews more or less followed the same pattern; they would begin amicably in English with protestations of “We love America,” but soon degenerated into hostility to America and non-Muslims expressed in Arabic. When Klein went public with the results of his mosque interviews revealing Muslims’ anti-American attitudes, he was largely refuted, doubted, or ignored by skeptics.

Then about four years ago, Klein’s translator, Nabil Bissada of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, invited Steve to appear on Arabic Christian TV “The Way” to address the dire situation of Egyptian Coptic Christians who are under constant threat of death from Egyptian Muslims. The format for this series of programs was that Klein would present an American, non-Muslim point of view as the only English speaker in a panel of guests.

The owner of this TV outlet, Joseph Nasralla, mentored Klein in broadcasting, and after about a year he gave him his own show, “Wake Up America.” Klein’s popular show, also carried by Los Angeles DISH TV, Channel 35.3 as well as being aired internationally, is basically an “Intel Brief” dealing with developments in Islam’s civilizational clash with the Western world about which Americans and all non-Muslims should be aware.

Due to Klein’s media notoriety with Egyptian Coptic Christians, prior to September 11, 2012, he was contacted by Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, producer to the infamous video, “Innocence of Muslims” for consultation. Nakoula, a Coptic Christian, confided to Klein his motive. Nakoula’s rationale might be termed – “inside baseball” in the world of Islamic jihad.

The Islamic jihad “playbook” that is largely being followed modern jihadists, “Milestones: In The Shade Of The Quran,” was written by Muslim Brotherhood Egyptian strategist Sayyid Qutb. As Qutb lays out in his book, preparing the Muslim world (“ummah”) for jihad requires “progressive revelation” to gradually introduce them to the extremist aspect of Islamic ideology – murder of non-believers in the name of the Muslim god Allah. In fact, the current leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri has declared: “we must not throw the masses -- scant in knowledge -- into the sea before we teach them to swim.” The jihadist fear is that a premature jihad would result in wrong choices that would not be in accord with Islamic law, the Shariah.

Nakoula had just this concept in mind because he reasoned – a movie mocking Mohammad would incite the Muslim ummah into frenzied revenge jihad, causing it to misfire. As he theorized with Klein, if the Muslim world is unprepared for organized jihad, it will be easier for the West to defeat. He likened premature jihad to Hitler launching World War II in the mid-1930’s when the Nazis had not yet completed building sufficient war materiel. Klein agreed to be his English language spokesman, thus getting sucked into the “Benghazi vortex” and increasing his notoriety markedly with both the FBI and Islamic jihadists. Klein reports that it felt to him like Obama and Holder would have preferred for him to have joined Nakoula in jail.

The world attention that Obama and Clinton directed to Nakoula’s video certainly advanced his objective of inciting frenzied jihadist actions. In this regard, Klein has a “mission accomplished” attitude in that, Nakoula’s production caused jihadist violence that resulted in decidedly negative world opinion toward Islamic destructiveness, even if it didn’t cause a worldwide jihad misfire as originally envisioned.

The “Enemy Of The Islamic State”

As a result of Klein’s TV broadcasting and association with Nakoula, he was singled out by the Islamic State in the seventh issue of its Internet e-zine, “Dabiq (PDF)”* as “a spiteful crusader who mocked Rasullah.”** This dangerous attention from the Islamic State prompted the FBI to consult with Klein about his personal security.


Steve Klein has summed up his personal counter-jihad as a fight that is unavoidable because Islamic jihad is an existential threat to the American way of life. Therefore, he invokes John Paul Jones: “I have not yet begun to fight!,” as well as “Semper Fidelis for Jesus.”


* In Islamic eschatology according to the Hadith, Daqib, a village in northern Syria, is the equivalent of Armageddon in Christian eschatology. In the end time, a Muslim army will battle and defeat an army of Romans (Christians) at Dabiq.

** “Rasullah” is Arabic for the incantation “Mohammad is the messenger of Allah.”

Col. Thomas Snodgrass, USAF (retired) served over a year in Peshawar, Pakistan, working with Pakistani military intelligence. During his year in Vietnam he daily scheduled 130 U.S. Army and Air Force intelligence collection aircraft. In his final overseas tour he was the U.S. Air Attaché behind the Iron Curtain in Warsaw, Poland.

In total, Col. Snodgrass was variously an Intelligence Officer or an International Politico-Military Affairs Officer serving duty tours in seven foreign countries, as well as teaching military history and strategy at the Air War College, US Air Force Academy, and USAF Special Operations School during a thirty-year military career.

Additionally, he was awarded an Air Force scholarship to get a history master’s degree in revolutionary insurgent warfare at the University of Texas, as well as being granted a year's educational sabbatical to teach and to write about international relations as an Air Force Research Associate in the graduate school at the Center for Advanced International Studies, University of Miami, Florida. Following the Air Force, Col. Snodgrass was an adjunct professor of military history for ten years at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Arizona.
